QUETTA, May 22: The chief warden of a prison was killed in a drive-by shooting in Machh town of Kachi Bolan district on Tuesday.

According to police, Chief Warden Shaukat Ali was going home after performing his duty when gunmen on a bike opened fire on him. He suffered multiple bullet wounds and died on way to hospital.

His body was handed over to his family after autopsy.

Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, a banned religious outfit, claimed responsibility for the killing of the warden. Its spokesman told reporters from an unidentified place that the warden used to torture the detained activists of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi. Machh police registered a case and started investigation.

A few days ago, unidentified men had gunned down a warden of the Huda District Jail in Quetta soon after he came out of the jail building.

body found: A bullet-riddled body was found in Winder area of Lasbela district on Monday night.

According to police, they were informed about the body by residents of the area. The body was later identified to be that of Ghulam Ali, a resident of Winder, who had been missing.

He suffered bullet wounds on his head and chest. Police handed over the body to his family after completing legal formalities.

TWO KILLED: Two men were killed in a clash between two groups in the Eastern bypass area of the city on Tuesday.

Police sources said that people belonging to Mullahkhel and Bangulzai groups had a dispute over a piece of land. On Tuesday they took positions and opened fire on each other with heavy weapons.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Akbar and Fazlur Rehman.

Police and FC personnel were deployed in the area to avert further clashes between the groups.
