RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has started a survey to identify commercial and domestic units that have not been assessed for property tax and change in use.
Talking to Dawn, Cantonment Executive Officer Rana Manzoor Ahmed Khan said they wanted to bring all the commercial and domestic units under property tax.
He said the survey would identify such properties which had not been assessed for property tax for the last many years.
The RCB has received complaints that owners changed the use of their property from domestic to commercial without getting approval.
“The taxation branch has been directed to check all those commercial properties. The survey will be completed by the end of June,” he said.
The official said property tax was the main revenue source and the civic body had collected Rs220 million under this head during the current fiscal year compared to Rs140 million in the year 2010-11.
He said the civic agency had set the target of Rs250 million property tax for the current fiscal year and directed its taxation branch to speed up the recovery operation.
He said the RCB had brought 6,000 more units under the tax net, adding 68,000 units were now under the property tax net, including 35 per cent commercial properties.
