QUETTA, May 20: An assistant sub-inspector of police was gunned down in Khuzdar town on Sunday night.

Police sources said that ASI Sher Ahmed Zehri was going home from the City police station when armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on him. He died on the spot.

Police took the body to the district hospital. The assailants managed to flee.

A senior police officer said the cause of killing was yet to be ascertained.

No one has claimed the responsibility for the killing.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, Abu Bakar Siddiq, claimed responsibility for yesterday’s killing of the chief jail warden of the Quetta district prison.
