LAHORE, Dec 11: The newly appointed DPO decided to relocate all investigation centres at his first meeting with SSPs and SPs on Wednesday.

DPO Khawaja Khalid Farooq said the people involved in various cases had to travel for miles to reach the centres, which were also hard to trace.

The DPO directed the SSP for investigation to carry out a detailed survey of the centres and submit to him a report about places where they could be relocated.

He was also directed to give more attention to followup of the cases sent to his wing for investigation. The DPO further told the SSP: “It is your responsibility to pursue the cases in courts and ensure more and more evidence and witnesses to get the criminals convicted, especially in crimes against property.

The DPO asked the SSP to submit to him a report about the percentage of the cases of car-theft and -snatching and the conviction rate in those cases.

The SSP for operations was directed by the DPO to make more efforts for checking the increasing crime rate. He was directed to submit a report on measures that could be adopted to control crimes against property.

Mr Khalid wanted the SSP to update the record of hardened criminals and make it available to all SPs at the earliest. Besides, the SSP was told to have his men keep an eye on all those involved in crimes against property after their release from jails.

The DPO directed the SP in charge of the Criminal Record Office (CRO) to improve intelligence gathering. He was asked to keep in touch with the SSP for operations.

Mr Khalid also wanted reorganization of complaint cells around a helpline at the earliest.
