RAWALPINDI, May 18: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar on Friday directed the police and the town municipal administrations to maintain the record of foreigners on a monthly basis.
He issued the instruction while chairing a meeting of the district intelligence committee held to discuss law and order situation in the district.
The DCO said the police should maintain the record of property dealers and hotels and bound them to inform the respective police station about hiring of houses by the foreigners or their arrival in the hotels.
He said the data would also help the excise and taxation department recover its dues from property dealers and hotel owners.
The meeting also discussed the issue of security in and around Rawalpindi, Chaklala and other railway stations. The divisional superintendent of railways, Syed Munawar Shah, informed the meeting that they were planning to install CCTV cameras and other equipment at the railway stations very soon.The meeting decided to install jammers in Adiala Jail to check the use of mobile phones on the premises. The meeting also recommended shifting of the two mobile towers near the jail to some other place due to security concerns.
The DCO asked the jail administration to ensure that no policeman facilitated provision of cellphones to the prisoners. He said it had been noticed that the policemen were helping the inmates in making phone calls from the jail.
The meeting discussed the security situation around New Benazir Bhutto International Airport as half of the airport falls under the administrative limits of the city district government Rawalpindi and the remaining under the Attock district.
The DCO directed the revenue officials to visit the site after which the CDGR would recommend to the provincial government to transfer the land to it for security purposes.
