ISLAMABAD, May 18: The Islamabad district court complex is in the dire need of renovation and repair as the existing structures are testing the nerves of the lawyers as well as the litigants for being in a shambles.

With the level of mercury surging, it looks an uphill task to sit in a small, congested and suffocated courtroom.

Ms Kainat, a district court lawyer said, “Constantly leaking roof of the court of additional sessions judge (west) is matter of grave concern.”

She was of the view that it gives a bad impression to newcomers especially those who start their practice here having idealised it for being located in the federal capital.

Another lawyer Ahmed Iqbal complained of missing seating arrangements for lawyers in the courtrooms as majority of the attendants was seen standing in and around the courtrooms.

He also pointed out a couple of courtrooms where no seating arrangement was available at all for the legal fraternity. In some courts where such arrangements are available, the chairs usually remain occupied by the litigants.

He said the courtrooms were already hot and humid in summer but loadshedding added to the woes.

“The walls are dirty with stains of spitting Pan and Gutka. Even some of the corners in the building are being used as peeing sites for the people in absence of proper facility of toilets.

According to a lawyer, Amir Khalil, such unhealthy atmosphere annoyed the people.

The lawyers’ fraternity has demanded of the authorities concerned to provide all basic facilities in the court complex besides carrying out repair and maintenance work. — APP
