RAWALPINDI, May 17: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Rawalpindi on Thursday issued show cause notice to the SHO Aabpara police station and arrest warrants for a constable of the same police station for their absence from the trial proceedings of the Ranger murder case.

ATC Judge Shahid Rafique resumed hearing of the Ranger murder case as chief cleric of Lal Masjid Maulana Abdul Aziz appeared in the court.

The absence of prosecution witnesses SHO Aabpara and a constable annoyed the judge who summoned them on next hearing and adjourned the case till May 30.

Maulana Aziz along with 21 other including his wife Umme Hassan and daughter Tayyaba is facing charges of murdering a Ranger official during the 2007 Lal Masjid operation.Meanwhile, a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court of Rawalpindi sent Mian Khurram Rasool, former media coordinator of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to Adiala Jail on 14-day judicial remand in a scrap fraud case.

Accountability Judge Tariq Abbasi resumed hearing of the case. NAB officials requested for extension in the physical remand of Mian Khurram Rasool. However, Advocate Amjad Iqbal Qureshi, counsel for Khurram Rasool opposed the extension and told the court that the bureau had already obtained 32-day physical remand of his client and the documents and other available record relevant to the case had already been given to them.

The NAB investigators could verify the record from the banks concerned, he added.

He pointed out that his client received Rs7 million for the supply of sugar and scrap from different parties and had returned them Rs110 million but they still wanted another Rs7 million from him.— A Reporter
