CHAKWAL, May 13: As many as six members of a family were killed while six others sustained injuries after the vehicle they were traveling in met an accident here on late Sunday evening.
Sources told Dawn that Mohammad Shahid, a resident of Dhapai village, along with 11 other family members had gone to visit the shrine of Pir Khara Sharif located in tehsil Pind Dadan Khan of Jhelum district.
The ill-fated family was returning to their village when their carry van smashed into a tree as its driver tried to overtake another vehicle near Dohman village on Jhelum Road.
Resultantly, Mohammad Shahid, his wife Shamim Akhtar, two daughters Natasha Bibi and Ume Habiba, a son Faizan Ali and another close relative Darakhshan Bibi died on the spot. The other six persons received serious injuries.
The personnel of Rescue 1122 and local police rushed to the spot and the injured and bodies were shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital.
Mohammad Akram, a police official at Dohman Police Station, told Dawn that the van was not only speeding but also overloaded. The condition of all the injured persons was reported to be stable.—A Correspondent
