PESHAWAR, May 12: Noted US scientist Dr Raziq Yaqub on Saturday called for modernising the existing power grid in Pakistan for better efficiency and said modern grid could help meet the country’s growing energy demand.

He was speaking at a seminar organised by CECOS University, Peshawar, on ‘Smart Grid Technology – Potential and Application for Pakistan” here.

Dr Raziq, who was born in Peshawar and teaches at the US University of Tennessee, discussed energy crisis in detail and the ways and means to overcome it.

He also highlighted the possible use of information and communication technology in electric vehicles besides the areas, where research on power could be done.

The scientist said introduction of smart grid could help Pakistan cope with the growing energy crisis.

Later, participants, including students and teachers, discussed with him energy crisis in the country.

Dr Raziq also visited various departments of the university and examined research projects carried out by students. He appreciated the quality of these projects.

On the occasion, CECOS University vice chancellor Professor Dr Riaz A Khattak suggested the development of a MS/MPhil programme on power engineering between the two universities.
