ISLAMABAD, May 7: The assets of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, one of the richest members of the Punjab Assembly, have increased by Rs69.19 million to Rs315.78 million in one year from Rs246.59 million, while his liabilities have declined to Rs105.35 million from Rs152.26 million.

In statements of assets and liabilities for 2011 submitted to the Election Commission, Shahbaz Sharif has declared that total assets of his family, including those of his two wives, have gone up by Rs97.04 million to Rs482.25 million.

His liabilities have declined by Rs46.91 million, while the worth of his investments and property has remained the same.

Cash in hand and bank balance have jumped manifold to Rs123.18 million from Rs5.75 million.

He owns two properties in Murree worth Rs16.60 million and 728 kanals of agricultural land at eight different locations worth Rs6.9 million, while his investment in sugar, textile and paper mills is valued at around Rs20.85 million.

He has two properties and two bank accounts worth Rs122.41 million in the United Kingdom.

The chief minister owns one vehicle – a land cruiser – worth Rs20.81 million, which was gifted to him.

His first wife –Nusrat – has assets worth more than Rs261 million, including non-agricultural property of Rs177.20 million and agricultural land worth Rs51.53 million. Her investment in textile and sugar mills and dairy and poultry farms is worth Rs10.85 million.

She does not own a car and jewellery, but has Rs9.96 million cash in hand and in banks.

Tehmina Durrani, the second wife, has comparatively a modest lifestyle. Her total wealth amounts to Rs9.98 million. She has jewellery worth Rs5 million and two cars.

The net wealth of Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, son of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, has dropped significantly to less than half of what he had last year, because of heavy debts amounting to Rs56.32 million.

However, the value of his assets has increased by Rs11.12 million to Rs84.91 million. He owns properties worth Rs47.36 million.

He has two cars, including a bullet-proof vehicle, worth Rs12.80 million and 500 tolas of gold worth Rs13 million and Rs2.55 million in banks.

Syed Ahmed Mujtaba Gillani, a nephew of the prime minister, has net wealth of only Rs6.88 million, including 23 acres of land, a small business and a little less than one million rupees in cash.

He has neither a house nor a car, but his wife owns three vehicles worth Rs3.1 million and a house worth Rs12 million, business worth half a million rupees and properties worth Rs2.32 million.

Chaudhry Moonis Elahi, son of former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi, owns assets worth Rs465.99 million, including properties worth Rs123.86 million, investments valued at Rs143.34 million and Rs187.60 million cash.

He has jewellery worth Rs1.62 million, but has no car. However, Mr Elahi has loans worth Rs242.16 million.

Veteran politician Hamid Nasir Chattha has net assets of more than Rs118.86 million.

Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, PML-Q parliamentary leader in Punjab Assembly, has assets worth Rs121 million, including immovable property of Rs10.51 million and immovable items of Rs1.6 million.

Sheikh Allauddin of the PML-Q has assets worth Rs1.19 billion, including Rs256 million cash in hand and banks, but he has no car.

Dr Mohammad Ashraf Chohan of the PML-N has assets worth Rs970 million in and outside Pakistan. He owns a house and a hospital valued at Rs700 million in the United Kingdom. His residence at Cavalry extension in Lahore is worth Rs40 million and a plot at Jail Road worth Rs50 million. He owns two cars, including a Mercedes, worth Rs4.5 million.

Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has assets of Rs56.5 million and 40.54 million euros in banks.
