KARACHI, Dec 10: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has emphasised the need for making scout organizations fully- functional at all levels in the province, so that the desired objectives of the movement could be attained.
He was speaking at the 13th meeting of the provincial council of the Boy Scouts Association at the Governor’s House on Tuesday.
The meeting considered a 13-item agenda, including efforts to bring the Association under the new system of government and the election of provincial scout commissioner.
The governor directed the organizations established at district levels to play their role in providing resources and speeding up their activities.
He said the objectives could be achieved by pursuing the principles of the movement, through personal sincerity and interest and by enhanced mutual contacts.
Mr Soomro announced his decision to increase the grant for the provincial association from Rs0.5 to Rs2 million.
The names of education secretary Nazar Hussain Maher and former commissioner Abdul Hameed Akhund were proposed for election as new commissioner. However, Mr Akhund withdrew from the contest.
Mr Maher thanked the council members for unanimously electing him as provincial scout commissioner and pledged to work to achieve the objectives of scouting. —APP
