GUJRANWALA, May 5: Punjab PPP President Imtiaz Safdar Warraich protested against the registration of a case against his party workers on the report of PML-N leaders for attacking their rally and called it a pack of lies, demanding either the case be discharged or also be registered against PML-N workers.
Talking to reporters at the outhouse of PPP leader Lalla Asad Papa on Naushera Road here on Saturday, he alleged that PML-N workers stormed into the PPP office, manhandled some party workers and abused the party leadership.
He said PPP workers moved an application to the Baghbanpura police for the registration of a case against PML-N attackers, but the police booked PPP workers instead. Mr Warraich said he along with party workers met the Regional Police Officer and the City Police Officer in their offices the same day and protested against the registration of a case against PPP workers.
He said the PPP was a peace loving party and had never attacked its rivals during their party campaign. He said the PPP would hold a dozen public meetings in Punjab against PML-N’s one. Lalla Asad alleged PML-N workers who attacked the PPP party office were members of a drug mafia.
He alleged that leaguers also kidnapped PPP worker Liaquat Toor the same night. Party MNAs, MPAs and other office bearers were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Baghbanpura police registered a case against about a dozen PPP workers and arrested most of them here on Saturday. Reports said Lalla Asad Papa, Bashir Khilji, Sajjad Haider, Jamil and Amanat were nominated in the FIR for attacking the PML-N rally and injuring several workers. Raids were being conducted at the residences of the remaining accused for their arrest.
