Bank heist

KARACHI, May 4: At least six dacoits robbed a bank of about Rs690,000 within four minutes in the limits of the Ferozabad police station on Friday, police said.

Station house officer of the police station Ejaz Khwaja said that at least six armed men entered the UBL bank’s Kashmir Road branch in Jamshed Town at around 3.24pm and took the entire bank staff hostage at gunpoint.

The police said the armed men who came in a car and on a motorcycle asked the bank staff to lie down on the floor.

They looted cash from the cash counter and snatched four cellphones from the staff and customers and fled in the same car, the police added.

Following the incident, the bank staff informed the police upon which a Ferozabad police party was sent to the spot.

The SHO said that at the time of the incident two security guards were on duty at the bank, but they did not offer any resistance. The police detained the guards on suspicion for interrogation.

The bandits were in shalwar kameez and talking in Pashto and Urdu, the SHO said quoting the bank staff as saying.—Staff Reporter
