ADELAIDE, Nov 19: It was a tough day in the office for the touring New Zealand cricketers at the Adelaide Oval here Monday.

As Kiwi team officials were announcing Test bowler Shayne O’Connor would be sent home Tuesday with a knee injury, veteran South Australia leg-spinner Peter McIntyre was skittling through the Black Caps’ batting line-up in the four-day match.

McIntyre’s six-wicket haul and a spectacular run out in the final overs set up a 17-run victory for South Australia with 17 balls to spare.

When Mike Smith ran out Shane Bond (3) with a direct throw, New Zealand were all out in their second innings for 178, chasing 196 to win.

McIntyre, a former Test bowler, claimed 6-75 from 29.1 overs.

New Zealand had looked certain to register their first win on tour when left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori cleaned up the South Australian tail before the touring side’s own batting collapsed.

Vettori took six for 80 from 28.3 overs as South Australia slumped to 212 all out in their second innings after resuming on 130 for four.
