RAWALPINDI, Dec 9: Civil Judge Azfar Sultan Syed on Monday issued warrants for the arrest of the general-secretary of People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP), Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, and the member of the legislative assembly (MLA), Azad Kashmir, Shehzada Kausar Gillani, for not appearing before court during the hearing of their high court rowdyism case.

According to the court, both the PPP leaders were supposed to appear before the court on December 30, otherwise, their bails would be cancelled.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Shehzada Kausar Gillani, along with two party workers, Nahid Khan and Shabir, were booked by the Airport police in 1999 under the Anti Terrorism Act (ATA). They were however released on bail.

They had been accused of throwing ink on the faces of two prosecution witnesses inside the Ehtesab bench of the Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi bench. The accused, who also scuffled with the police, were present in the court during the hearing of corruption charges against their party chairperson Benazir Bhutto and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari.

The defence counsel, Farooq Awan advocate, appeared before the court on behalf of Nahid Khan on Monday, while Shabir was himself present in the court.
