KARACHI, Dec 9: As many as 4,136 cases of physical and sexual abuse against women and 1,506 cases of the same nature against children were reported in Pakistan during the last eleven months.

About 1,321 cases of murder, 925 of rape, 350 of torture, 90 of burn and 13 cases of stripping were reported in the national press, says a report released by the Lawyers for Human Rights and Legal Aid (LHRLA) on the eve of the World Human Rights Day, on Tuesday.

The report adds that 1,506 cases of physical as well as sexual abuse against children were also reported during the period. Out of these, 580 cases were of murder, 339 of rape, 298 of sodomy, 193 of injury and 60 related to different cases of severe torture.

To highlight the significance of the Universal Human Rights Day, LHRLA, the UN Information Centre and the regional directorate of human rights, ministry of law, are organizing a seminar on Thursday at the Muslim Gymkhana.. —PPI
