GUJRANWALA, April 21: District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Rashid Qamar on Saturday ordered the accused in Satellite Town plaza collapse incident to appear in anti-terrorism court on Monday (tomorrow) as police had added provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) against them in an FIR.

Reports said Divisional Commissioner Abdul Jabbar Shaheen had got registered a case against housing and planning department deputy director, an assistant director, Nandipur Town TMO and other officers when DCO Muhammad Ameen Chaudhry held them responsible for the loss of lives in Satellite Town plaza collapse incident following an inquiry.

But building owner Sajid Naeem, building inspector Rana Imran and housing and planning assistant director Khalid Qureshi got interim bail from sessions court. When they appeared in the court on Saturday for confirmation of their interim bail, they were informed by the court that police had added provisions of ATA in an FIR against them, asking them to appear in ATC on April 23.

LAW AND ORDER: Regional Police Officer Muhammad Ameen has said police is responsible to provide peaceful atmosphere to the business community and protect public life and property Speaking at Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday, he said a helpline had been set up at his office to register complaints.

The RPO said police culture would be changed according to the aspiration of public and “for the purpose Model Town police station has been selected as Model police station.”

He said liaison between public and police would be strengthened. Earlier, GCCI President Malik Zaheerul Haq and other office-bearers welcomed him at the chamber and apprised him about the reservations of the business community regarding law and order situation.

ANTI-POLIO DRIVE: As many 747,000 children of five years of age would be administered anti-polio drops along with vitamin A capsule throughout the district during a three-day anti-polio campaign starting from Monday (tomorrow).

This was stated by EDO (health) Dr Masood Bhatti while speaking at a press conference here on Saturday.

He said 1,441 mobile teams, 143 fixed, 64 bus stop and 10 general teams were deployed to provide anti-polio drops to children. He said under the supervision of DCO, EDO (health) and district health officer, 288 area in-charges and 49 zonal supervisors had also been inducted to make the campaign successful.

He said about 15 polio cases had been reported during the current year -- one from Jhang, Punjab, four Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two Balochistan, two Sindh and six from Fata.

Earlier, National Assembly Standing Committee for Commerce Chairman MNA Khuram Dastagir Khan inaugurated the campaign at DHQ hospital and later participated in a walk.

The walk started from DHQ hospital and ended at Commissioner’s Office.
