BAHAWALPUR, April 20: Residents of Bhutta Colony No 3 on Friday protested against the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) for erratic power supply for the last three days.

Scores of consumers turned violent as they blocked Bahawalpur-Ahmedpur East Road to traffic for hours and damaged a Mepco vehicle that brought the repaired transformer.

The protesters said the transformer developed fault three days ago, depriving them of electricity. They said the officials sent the repaired transformer only after they learnt about the protest.

Sensing danger, Mepco’s driver fled the scene. Traffic remained suspended on the road for a couple of hours. Some officials demanded that the police take action against the mob.

Meanwhile, a demonstration against loadshedding was held at Bihari Chowk, Satellite Town.

Muhammad Mansha, head of a welfare organisation, MNA Baleeghur Rehman and Punjab Minister for Jails Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar spoke on the occasion.

WALK: A walk under the auspices of the Emergency Rescue Service 1122 was organised in connection with Earth Day.

The walk from Farid Gate to Fowara Chowk was led by emergency officer Malik Asif Rahim Channar.
