KARACHI, Nov 19: Sindh High Court Chief Justice Syed Saeed Ashhad has delegated judicial powers to judicial magistrates to enforce price control during Ramazan.

These powers have been given under the Weight and Measures Act, Ehteram-e-Ramazan Ordinance, 1981, West Pakistan Food Frains Order, 1957, West Pakistan Food Stuffs Prohibition Order 1958, West Pakistan Wheat, Aatta, Maize, Rice and Sugar Distribution Order 1967 and Foodstuff Control Act 1958.

The City Government had made a reference to the Chief Justice of High Court seeking to entrust powers to judicial magistrates to award punishment to hoarders and profiteers.

As per procedure, the Town Nazim will check prices of essential commodities with the inspectors of Bureau of Supply and Prices, Sindh, who are authorized to charge sheet the profiteers.—APP
