LONDON, Dec 8: Two moments of class and a late scrambled effort gave Tottenham Hotspur a 3-1 home win over West Bromwich Albion on Sunday in a Premier League match where the visitors made much of the running but could muster only one late goal.

Christian Ziege put Tottenham ahead in the third minute with a low free kick and, after West Brom had dominated the next half hour, the German defender sent Irish striker Robbie Keane clear for the second.

Tottenham, hugely flattered by the halftime lead, tightened up after the break and after West Brom’s persistence was rewarded in the 73rd minute with a superb 25 metre strike by Scott Dobie, substitute Gus Poyet bundled in the third 10 minutes from time.

The result moves Tottenham back up to seventh place on 27 points — eight behind leaders Arsenal - with West Brom stuck in 17th.

Earlier on Saturday Chelsea joined the select band of potential English league champions on Saturday after grinding out a 3-1 victory over Everton to go second in the table.
