SIALKOT, Dec 8: Unidentified persons kidnapped city’s leading exporter of garments, Mohammad Aslam Shaikh, for ransom from Muridke on Eid day.
Sources said Mr Aslam was being driven home in his luxury car on GT Road, when he found his way blocked by the armed men who had set up pickets near Muridke. When he and his driver tried to put up resistance, they were beaten up by the kidnappers who tied up the driver with rope, threw him in the fields nearby, abandoned Mr Aslam’s car at a deserted place in Muridke and took him away in their own vehicle.
The kidnappers later contacted the exporter’s family through his cellular phone and demanded a ransom of Rs10 million.
The Muridke and Sialkot police have not yet found any clue as to their whereabouts.
It may be recalled that just a few days ago, unknown kidnappers secured Rs8 million for the release of another leading exporter of the city, Haji Mohammad Latif.
