Faisal for Jhang’s bifurcation

Published December 9, 2002

JHANG, Dec 8: Shah Jewna will be made a Tehsil in near future to save the people living on the right bank of Chenab the trouble of crossing the river and reaching Jhang to get their problems redressed.

Federal minister Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat made this statement at a meeting with people who had come to offer him Eid greetings at his residence in Shah Jewna.

He said the matter had already been taken up with the provincial government. The revenue board would work out the legal modalities as soon as funds are released for the purpose, he added.

Giving further details, he said that Jhang, the largest Tehsil of the former Faisalabad division, would be split into two with Shah Jewna, Hissan, Qadirpur, Kot Issa Shah, Chela and Massan Qanungo Halqas of Jhang Tehsil on the right or western bank of Chenab forming the new Tehsil, added to which would be two Qanungo circles of Chiniot Tehsil, Sheikhupura and Baran.

The government is also considering a proposal to annex the area within the jurisdiction of Shah Nikdar police station in Sargodha district to the new Tehsil.

Mr Saleh observed that dividing larger administrative units into smaller ones was always beneficial both for the state and the citizens. This was precisely the reason why Sargodha district — almost equal in size to Jhang — has been split into five Tehsils.

Earlier, the minister had a busy day meeting delegations from his constituency and party leaders. Interestingly, some prominent PPP workers from Faisalabad, Sargodha and Khushab districts also met him in defiance of instructions from the party’s high command.
