11 killed on roads in Punjab

MULTAN, Dec 8: Eleven people were killed and five others sustained injuries in different road accidents in the Punjab during Eid holidays.

Five people, including four family members, were killed on Sunday when a car collided head-on with a wagon on the Fatehpur Road in the Layyah district, some 100 kms from here.

Police said Abdullah was going to drop the family of his cousin Ziaullah, his wife and two children Aqsa (2) and Umair (suckling) by his car to Chowk Azam bus stand. Abdullah started chasing the Mianwali-bound bus which had just left the bus stand. When they reached Sagoo Morr, their car crashed into the oncoming wagon as Abdullah hurriedly attempted to overtake the bus. As a result, Ziaullah, his wife and children died on the spot while, Abdullah, wagon driver Aslam and passenger Abdullah son of Ali Muhammad sustained injuries. The passenger, Abdullah, also died on the way to a Layyah hospital.

In another accident, an elderly woman died when a speeding bus (MNZ-1865) knocked her down near a city underpass. She was crossing the road. Her body was sent to Nishtar Hospital for post-mortem.

Police have arrested driver Muhammad Shaban besides taking the bus into custody.

SAHIWAL: Three family members were killed and as many sustained serious injuries in a road mishap on the Arifwala-Bahawalnagar Road near Qaboola bridge.

Fiaz Bukhsh along with his family members was going to Bahawalnagar by a car (FDN-1903) when it rammed into a roadside tree while saving a donkey cart. Consequently, Fiaz, his wife Abida and his uncle Noor Elahi died instantly while children Noor, Ali and Mareena suffered serious injuries. They were admitted to a local hospital.

FAISALABAD: Two children were killed in a road accident while as many murdered in different incidents during Eid holidays.

Shafique along with his daughters Hina and Tehmina was on the way to his brother’s house by motorcycle when a speeding car hit the bike on the Satiana Road. The children died on the spot while Shafique sustained serious injuries.

In Chak 209-RB, Akbar and his accomplices allegedly shot to death Nazir Ahmed over a property dispute on Eid day.

Meanwhile, Tawakkal Mehmood allegedly shot dead his sister on the suspicion of having relations in Bahlak.—APP
