RAWALPINDI, Nov 19: The chairman, All Pakistan Alliance of Kutcha Abadis, Asim Sajjad Akhtar has urged the government to implement the Kutcha Abadi policy announced last year.

Speaking at a meeting of the Alliance members in Dhoke Hassu, he said the residents of such localities were disappointed with the government’s hollow slogans, and demanded immediate redressal of their problems.

Mr Akhtar said the prevailing situation in the country was not healthy, and the situation would aggravate if the citizens’ basic rights were not fulfilled.

The Alliance chairman praised those who participated in a peace rally on November 6, and urged the Kutcha Abadi residents to continue struggle for their social, economic and political rights.

The participants welcomed the government’s repeated announcements that property rights would be given to the Kutcha Abadi residents by December this year, but expressed skepticism on the delay in the implementation.

They criticized the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and Pakistan Railways for refusing to acknowledge the Kutcha Abadis on their lands.

The Alliance demanded of the government to issue instructions to the railways to restore basic facilities during Ramazan.

The representatives of the Kutcha Abadis said they were still living in tents and no permanent rehabilitation had been arranged as promised by the CDA.
