NEW YORK: Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US and a central character of the memogate scandal Hussain Haqqani on Tuesday filed a petition to the memo commission informing them of his unavailability in the upcoming hearing, DawnNews reported on Wednesday.

The commission had summoned Haqqani on April 5 to record his testimony.

In his application, the former ambassador pleads that he is suffering from a heart disease and is currently undergoing an extensive medical check up at a New York hospital.

Moreover, Haqqani says that the Supreme Court has not yet taken a decision over an application that he had filed earlier, requesting to testify to the commission through video link.

The former ambassador says that he would visit Pakistan only after consultation with his doctors, and after the apex court decides on his application.

Haqqani's application had stated that the SC should pass an order allowing the commission to record his statement through similar facilities extended to Mansoor Ijaz.

The memo commission had earlier denied a request by Haqqani to record his testimony via video link, but had advised the former ambassador to forward his request to the apex court.
