The whites seemed extra-brilliant, pinks more flushed, blues more vibrant, reds more luscious, purples more deep and browns more earthy at the fashion presentation held recently at Café Aylanto in Karachi to mark the launch of Misaal lawn.

However, smack in the middle of lawn season, the event was remarkably well-attended and featured ladies scouting for good bargains while rubbing shoulders with their kin and kind, as well as socialites of which former model and film and television actress Anita Ayub happened to be one.

The presentation itself was rather short and sweet with a makeshift ramp smack in the middle of the café as models strutted outdoors from the interior confines of the stylish café to display the fashionable outfits that held the gaze of many if not all.

The cuts remained classically eastern with some fusion thrown in while the embellishments and patterns were what the popular trend is these days: better safe than sorry, right?

With quite a few popular designer lawn brands gearing up to display their wares at the time of writing this piece and with some of them having already done so when it appears in print, here’s hoping that the lawn mania this summer leads to a better understanding of signature style and a designer’s individual identity and approach to pattern come lawn season in the year 2013. —T.R.
