KARACHI: Three children died on Thursday in the National Institute of Child Health due to unavailability of basic medication, DawnNews reported.

Dozens of nurses and nursing students of Sindh are protesting for an increase in their pay and other perks.

The doctors have also announced their support with the nurses.

People coming from far areas for treatment have been neglected due to the current scenario.

“We are compelled to send the patients to other private hospitals due to the unavailability of the paramedical staff,” said a doctor who is supporting the nurses' protests.

On March 28, the protesters faced resistance from the law enforcement officers as they tried to forcefully enter in to the Governor House.

The police used batons and water-cannons on the protesters for violating the red zone protocol, leaving several nurses injured.

Many of the protesters were also taken into police custody.

Hence, Provincial Nurses Association of Sindh, with the consultation of Pakistan Nursing Federation, has announced a strike and a boycott of their duties at government-run hospitals in Karachi and across Sindh.
