Arms cache seized

PESHAWAR, Dec 4: The crime investigation department has seized a large quantity of weapons and arrested the smuggler here on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, a CID team erected barricade near Hazar Khawani Chowk to check vehicles coming from Bara, Khyber Agency.

A Nissan Sunny car No IDD-3682 was signalled to stop. During search the CID team recovered 20 Kalashnikov rifles, five 7-MM rifles, three 30-bore pistols, two Kalakovs and 700 rounds of different bore.

The smuggler Amirzeb, son of Mohammad Omar Khan, a resident of Dir Colony Peshawar was arrested.

A case has been registered against the accused at the CID police station.

The initial inquiry revealed that the accused wanted to smuggle the arm cache to Punjab and subsequently to Sindh, said Assistant Inspector General crime investigation department, Abdul Majeed Marwat.
