ISLAMABAD: The federal capital will host horse and cattle show annually and an exclusive stadium would be build for the purpose.

Chairman CDA, Engineer Farkhand Iqbal announced it here on Sunday at the closing ceremony of the three-day tent-pegging competition held at Fatima Jinnah (F-9) Park.

“CDA will take all out measure to organise such splendid events with the aim to highlight the historical and cultural heritage,” he said and added that tent pegging also has its value as sports in the region.

The chairman was not alone to be dazzled by the spectacular show of marksmanship by the efficient riders who participated in the event.

The skills and sprit of competition by the horsemen forced the organisers to cancel the double-riders tent pegging session and only the single-rider sessions along with the team-of-four events were held.

“Due to tough competition the two sessions got too lengthy and there was no time left for double-riders session,” said an official of the Capital Development Authority.

The first position in the singles was grabbed by Malik Zohaib of Syed Horse Club Islamabad. The first position in the team event was secured by the Tareen Club, Haripur Hazara, led by its captain Naeem Khan. However, after repeated ties for the number-two slot the local team came forward and decided to step down.

There was tie up in the team event for the second position between the Bukhari Club of Mandi Bahauddin and Gujjar Club of Rawalpindi. At this point - “ before the organisers decided to go for the third round -“ Haji Mehboob of Gujar Club, Rawalpindi came forwarded and announced to take the third position voluntarily.

“My friends of Bukhari Club are the guests and since we are hosting the event, I feel honoured to withdraw and present the slot as gift for the players coming from as far as Mandi Bahauddin,” he announced.

The competition witnessed enthusiasm and emotional attachment among the participants coming form various districts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). “We are more than happy to see this sport getting a respectable place in federal capital,” said a participant coming from Pindigheb, district Attock.

Around 340 horsemen belonging to 85 clubs from across Punjab and KP participated in the event organised in connection with the Jashn-e-Baharan.

The competitions were accompanied by other activities for families including camel riding and horse dancing that entertained the visitors a lot.
