PESHAWAR, March 18: Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif said here on Sunday that they would not make any secret deal with Pakistan People's Party for the upcoming general elections.

Talking to journalists, he said that stance of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was clear regarding taking part in the general elections. Mr Sharif was in Peshawar to condole the death of PML-N provincial leader Anwar Kamal Marwat.

He said that anarchy would engulf the country if prime minister didn't implement the verdict of Supreme Court in corruption cases. PML-N central general secretary Iqbal Zafar Jaghra, provincial president Pir Sabir Shah and former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi were also present on the occasion.

Mr Sharif said that Supreme Court took notice of corruption in the country and expected from the prime minister to take prompt action against the corrupt elements. “What message the prime minister will deliver to the masses if he doesn't take action against the corrupt elements,” he questioned.

The Punjab chief minister said if PPP government failed to stop rampant corruption, it would push the country towards anarchy, providing an opportunity to anti-democracy elements to take advantage of the situation.

To a question, he said that trend of buying loyalties of people with the money looted from public exchequer was followed when governor rule was implemented in Punjab.“Instead of shaping Pakistan according to the ideologies of Quaid-i-Azam and Allama Mohammad Iqbal, the country has been left at the mercy of thieves and robbers.” Mr Shahbaz alleged.

He expressed sympathies with the relatives of Anwar Kamal Marwat at his residence in Hayatabad. He lauded political struggle of the deceased, saying he was a devoted politician.
