LARKANA, March 18: A judge of the Federal Shariat Court said here on Sunday that history must not be diluted with tales and stories.
The judge, Shahzado Shaikh, was addressing the annual history conference held on Sunday at Sir Shah Shahnawaz Bhutto Memorial Library under the auspices of Larkano District Historical Society.
He said history, being a record of last events, should not be tested on the basis of faiths and beliefs. He said unauthenticated stories and events should be removed from history books.
Historians, he said, must have non-partisan approach and record the events of the past as they were.
Renowned research scholar and archaeologist, Badar Abro, said that archaeological sites and remains identified themselves and their period if they were seen and studied minutely.
He referred to particular styles of construction of ‘pillars’ scattered in and around Larkana and Shahdadkot and said the ‘stupa’ of Mohen-jo-daro was one of them and the relics belonged to the Bhudhist era.
He said these ‘pillars’ called for an in-depth assessment and analysis.
He said hat in his opinion these pillars might have been built by the followers of the ‘Mahayana’ Buddhist sect, and the name of Mohen-jo-daro could have roots in the sect.
Travel writer Ishtiaque Ansari made a presentation in which he focused on the tomb of Shah Baharo who lived in the Chandka area, the ancient name of Larkana region, as a general in Kalhora period.
He said the tomb was a fine example of architecture and called for measures to protect it from further deterioration.
Political activist and thinker Amanullah Shaikh shed light on the political, social, cultural and literary history of Larkana. He said in a paper that Larkana had produced political figures of international stature and reputation.
Deputy Commissioner of Larkana Abdul Aleem Lashari said steps would be taken to set up a History Museum in Larkana.
Dr Bashir Ahmed Shaad, Professor Mukhtiar Samo and Rizwan Gul spoke on various aspects of the history of Larkana.
Mohammad Yusuf Shaikh, chairman of the Larkana district historical society, said the society was striving to preserve the history of Larkana.
