ISLAMABAD: The top military leadership of the country on Thursday reiterated that the issue of resuming supplies to Nato/Isaf troops in Afghanistan would only be taken by the parliament, DawnNews reported.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Meeting (JCSC) was held at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Chaklala.
General Khalid Shameem Wynne, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee presided over the meeting which was attended by Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Mohammad Asif Sandila, Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, Secretary Defence, Director General Joint Staff, Director General Inter Services Intelligence, Director General Strategic Plans Division and senior military officers from the three services.
JCSC is the highest defence forum. It is held on quarterly basis to dilate upon the complete security matrix.
The forum during the current meeting reviewed the prevailing national and regional security environment and the challenges faced there in.
Situation on borders was discussed threadbare and all the participants expressed satisfaction over the operational preparedness and the morale of the Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar on seperate venues also restated their stance on the issue.
The defence minister said the matter was pending with the parliament which would discuss recommendations of Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNC) in a joint sitting which was likely to be held after the forthcoming joint session.
