ISLAMABAD, Dec 3: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO), Justice Saleem Akhtar, has directed the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) to refund Rs4.466 million to a complainant immediately.

The FTO further said that the tax authorities should also pay additional payment for delayed refund to the complainant, said an official announcement issued on Tuesday.

He recommended CBR to identify the concerned officials responsible for unauthorized withholding of refund, which burdened the national kitty with additional payment under section 171 of Income Tax Ordinance.

The complainant, M/s TECH Society Ltd, Lahore alleged that the tax officials withheld its due refund of Rs4.466 million for the assessment years 1988-89 to 1995-96.
