KARACHI: Indian snooker celebrity Yasin Merchant has shown his willingness to coach Pakistan in short stints if approached by the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA).
“PBSA is considering the proposal and will soon recommend his case to the ministry of interior for granting necessary approval and NOC,” president of the PBSA, Alamgir Shaikh, told Dawn on Tuesday.
The PBSA official said the two-time former Asian champion had a good rapport with Pakistani players who will feel comfortable with him.
“He’s an ideal choice and there’ll be no language barrier,” he added. Yasin announced his retirement after the world championship held at Bangalore last year and was concentrating on family business.
“My visit after calling it a day was aimed at promoting goodwill between the two nations and revival of Indo-Pak Peace Cup,” said Yasin.—Sports Correspondent
