LARKANA:Sarkash Sindhi, renowned poet known for his revolutionary verses, died here on Monday after protracted illness.He was 72.

He is survived by two daughters and a son. He was laid to rest in Ali Bahar graveyard near Shaikh Zayed Hospital here on Monday evening. A large number of people from different walks of life — including Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz chairman Basheer Khan Qureshi and writers Taj Joyo and Rashid Morai — attended the funeral.

Sarkash Sindhi, a retired high school teacher, has six anthologies and three volumes of autobiography to his credit.

He was born in Palipota village near Seeta town on Oct 1, 1940 and named Abdul Majeed. Later, his family migrated to Jawabpur village near Dakhan in Larkana district. He joined education department as primary school teacher in 1961. He sought premature retirement in 1987.

He started writing poetry in 1954 and later also took up prose. He received several awards in recognition of his literary contributions.

He also remained a member of the central council of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz.
