Brilliant Arsalan on goal rampage

LAHORE, Dec 2: Five goals by Arsalan Najib, including a hat trick guided Nee Punhal to the final of the Ramazan Cup polo tournament after a convincing 8-3 1/2 win against REL in the semifinal at the Lahore Polo Club ground, Monday.

Nee Punhal meet Guard Filter in the final Tuesday.

Arsalan was in brilliant form giving his team a unbeatable 4-0 lead, between the first and second chukkers. He scored two goals each in the first and second chukker to complete his hat trick.

REL who had half goal on handicap, after conceding a heavy lead scored their first goal through seasoned campaigner Atif Yar Tiwana, who scored two goals in the match.

But Faaiz Rahim who also scored two goals for the winners again increased the lead by netting his first before the second chukker was closed.

In the third chukker, Arslan banged home his fifth goal which was the only goal of the third chukker also. Nee Punhal led 6-1 1/2 at the end of the third chukker.

In the fourth chukker, both sides scored two goals each. Faaiz scored his second goal for Nee Punhal while Captain Shaukat Malik added a goal.

For REL, Atif struck his second goal and Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana his solitary goal but only to lose the prefinal by a big margin.

Earlier, in the subsidiary final, three ace players Shah Qubali Alam, his younger brother Shamyl and Syed Raza Gillani all scored four goals each to help Musa Industries crush Rangers 14-5 1/2 margin.

Aurangzeb Monnoo scored two remaining goals for the winners.

Rangers who had 2 1/2 goals on handicap scored three goals in the match. Amanat scored two goals while Major Jalil Aftab contributed a goal.
