GUJRANWALA, Dec 2: At least half a dozen medical stores and clinics were sealed on Monday by a drug inspector in Ghakkhar town and nearby Nat Kalan village.
The drug inspector conducted raids on medical stores and clinics and sealed them on the charge of keeping spurious medicines. However, many quacks ran away after closing their clinics when they came to know about the raid.
It may be mentioned that half a dozen medical stores and clinics had already been sealed in raids at Wazirabad and Ghakkhar town a few days ago.
CAUGHT: Three thieves of the electricity cable were caught red-handed and as many managed to escape in Tetley and Kamoki sub-divisions.
A gang of power cable thieves was cutting the wires from streets and fields when villagers came out of their houses due to ‘power failure’. They spotted thieves on electricity polls and caught three of them while their three accomplices made good their escape.
Later, they were handed over to police who also recovered stolen cable and other equipment from their possession.
GEPCO PLAN: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) has initiated its first phase of providing power supply without any hurdle and reducing line losses with an expenditure of Rs12.50 million.
This was stated by Gepco chief executive Brig Saifullah Khalid while speaking at a meeting here on Monday.
He said this phase would be completed within a month and under the light transmission proposal about 70 works would be revamped with an amount of Rs10 million.
Under the plan, he said, 25-kilometre-long light transmission lines and eight-kilometre-long 11 KV lines would be laid besides installing 50 new-brand electric transformers of various types.
The company was adopting solid steps in improving heavy and light transmission lines to reduce line and technical losses besides the improvement of four 11 KV feeders with an expenditure of Rs2.5 million, he said.
SHOT DEAD: A youth was shot dead while his uncle received injuries late Sunday during an abortive dacoity bid in Khot Sadhoki village.
Dilawar Hussain (18) and his uncle Akram (35) were asleep at their outhouse when bandits in their bid to loot paddy and cattle came there. They woke up and tried to overpower the bandits, but they opened fire on them, killing Dilawer instantly and injuring Akram seriously. He was admitted to the local DHQ Hospital in critical condition. Kamoki Saddar police removed the body to city morgue for autopsy.
A case has been registered against the unidentified assailants.
Meanwhile, a youth was strangled to death by unidentified assailant in Raj Kot near Alipur By-pass Road and later set his body on fire.
The motive behind the incident could not be ascertained.
Garjakh police have registered a case and are investigating.
CAUGHT: At least 50 shopkeepers were caught by raiding teams of the district administration and police for overcharging in various markets and bazaars here on Monday.
The magistrate also fined them Rs20,000 collectively.
