HYDERABAD, Dec 2: A scheme for school improvement has been introduced in the Hyderabad district under which 32 schools, which show better results, will be converted into English-medium schools every year.

This was said by DCO Mir Hussain Ali while presiding over a meeting, regarding educational development schemes, held at his office here on Monday.

He said 16 primary schools and the same number of secondary schools would be converted into English-medium schools.

He said the programme would begin from the new academic session and in this regard, a primary and a secondary school had been selected from each taluka of the district.

He said in addition to giving awards to 750 students through competitive examinations, Rs500 each would be distributed among 1,158 deserving students and Rs1,000 each would be given to 498 orphan students in the district during the current financial year.

The DCO further informed the meeting Rs29.459 million had also been earmarked for distribution of free textbooks among students of primary schools.

He said a demand had been sent to the Sindh Textbook Board, Jamshoro, for publishing and providing the required number of books before Feb 1 so that they might be distributed before March 31.

He said Rs21.5 million was being utilized through the school management committees to facilitate students and teaching staff, and remove the bottlenecks.
