KARACHI, Dec 2: Sindh Chief Secretary K.B. Rind has stressed the need for making IT department fully-functional in view of its great significance, so that vast opportunities of jobs could be made available to the unemployed youths besides promoting information technology in the province.

Presiding over a meeting on Monday, he pointed out that IT was a branch of modern education which, if effectively used, could ensure a fast economic progress.

The meeting discussed various proposals for reframing technical education and to streamline it in accordance with modern requirements.

Managing-director Siemens Pakistan, Sohail Wajahat Siddiqi, who was specially invited to attend the meeting, submitted some suggestions.

The proposal to establish a technical education vocational training authority or board also came under discussion, by which some 242 technical institutions functioning in the province could be run under one set-up.

The meeting decided to streamline the curricula of technical education and training as per modern-day requirements and bring uniformity in their quality.

Mr Rind stressed that importance of information technology should not be seen summarily, but recommendations should be framed for its promotion from primary to the university levels in view of its international significance.

He said a strategy would have to be adopted so that our manpower could be brought at par with the international capability in the sector.

He pointed out that some 3,073 officials and employees of the existing technical education and training staff could also be trained further, making them effectively functional as per the present-day requirements.—APP
