Customs Academy sail into final

KARACHI, Dec 1: Customs Academy booked their berth in the final in the Eighth Tapal Ramazan tournament, edging out Deewan Mushtaq Sugar Mills by 21 runs in the first semifinal played.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Customs Academy got off to a flying start when Kashif Siddiq (34) and Azhar Shafiq (27), put on 47 runs for the opening wicket.

With Navaid Latif flaying five scorching boundaries and two sixes in a flamboyant 50 and skipper Aamir Bashir (20 not out), Customs Academy reached 194 for nine wickets in their 25 allotted overs. Off-spinner Wusat Hussain had figures of three for 44.

Deewan Mushtaq Sugar Mills fairly placed at 59 for one wicket through Wasim Naeem (26) and Fahad Anjum (20), were suddenly in a spot of bother reeling at 109 runs for the loss of six wickets.

Although Iftikhar Ahmed (37), tried his best to hit his team out of trouble, Deewan Sugar Mills fell short of the victory target by 22 runs after being bowled out for 173 with one delivery to spare.

Man of the Match Right-arm medium pacer Imran Ali was the pick of the Customs attack, claiming three wickets for 23 runs. Left-arm Shahid Mehmood three for 36 and off-spinner Tabish Nawan two for 40, lent Imran admirable support.

Monday’s fixture: KESC v/s Baqai Dolphins (second semi-final) at 1.00 p.m.

PIA BLUES TASTE DEFEAT

Candyland CC tamed PIA Blues, registering a six-wicket triumph in the Baqai Inter Academies Ramazan Festival cricket tournament played Sunday.

Having first use of the wicket, PIA Blues were skittled out for 94 runs in 20.5 overs with Man of the Match medium pacer Kashif Habib three for 21 and leg-spinner Mirza Idrees two for 17, sharing the bowling spoils. Sarfaraz was the only batsman to face the Candyland attack with some confidence, top scoring for his side with 24 runs.

With opener Irfanuddin cracking seven boundaries and a six in his bright 50, Candyland reached the winning target of 95, losing four wickets in the process after 17.1 overs. Mohammad ul Haq, grabbed two of the four wickets that fell conceding 24 runs.

EXCITING WIN

Omer CC reached the final of the M.A. Shah Floodlight cricket tournament notching up an exciting 12-run victory over Deewan Mushtaq Sugar Mills Saturday night.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, Omer CC were bowled out for 156 in the 20 allotted overs with Asad Ahmed (38), Ashraf Ali (33), Sajid Hanif (32), and Saqib Zia (24), among the runs. Wusat Husain was the pick of the Dewan Mushtaq attack, claiming four wickets for 18 runs.

Although Fahadullah scored 44 runs and Asif Zakir (37), Dewan Mushtaq fell short of the victory target by 13 runs, bowled out for 144 in 19.4 overs.

Asad Ahmed four for 25 and Iftikhar Ali three for 25, sharing the new ball, bowled their team to an exciting victory.

Monday fixture: Omer CC v Siddiq Sports.

RANGERS IN FINAL

Rangers CC booked their berth in the final of the Second Justice Asghar Ali Shah Ramazan Trophy beating Nazir Gymkhana by 31 runs at the KDA Stadium Sunday.

In a low scoring match, Rangers batting first were bowled out for 113 runs in 16 overs with Rashid Ali (51), being the main scorer. Imran Ali chipped in with 20, while Chenzeb bagged three wickets for 16 runs.

Set a fairly easy target of scoring 114 runs for victory, Nazir Gymkhana in reply were skittled out for 82 runs in 18 overs. Ahmed Nawab (28) top scored for his side.

Jafar Ali four for 18 was the pick of the Rangers attack and was well supported by Hamid Ali two for 18 and Irfan Kazmi two for 21.
