HYDERABAD, Nov 18: SHO A-section police station of Latifabad, Arshad Laghari has arrested the leader of a gang engaged in the kidnapping of children and smuggling them to Dubai for working as jockeys of racing camels.

Leghari told Dawn Syed Raza Abbas Jafri who was wanted by Quetta police was arrested from Latifabad unit-8 near Maan Jee hospital.

He said Jafri had escaped from Quetta during a police raid and was involved in the kidnapping of four women and four children.

A case under section 364 (A), 419, 420, 468, 471 PPC and section 6(1) of Passport Act is pending with the crime branch of Quetta police station, he added.

Quetta police has been informed and they are on way to Hyderabad to get the custody of the accused, he concluded.

MERGER OPPOSED: The chief of All Pakistan Technical Drawing Establishment Association Hyderabad, Hafiz Matloob Ahmed Chishti has severely criticized the proposed merger of public health engineering department with the local bodies department.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said the public health engineering department was responsible for water supply and drainage schemes in the province and since 1973 when it was separated from PWD and made autonomous, it had initiated 1,285 water supply and 914 drainage schemes in different parts of the province.

He said the proposal to merge it with the local bodies department had created great resentment among the workers.

He said under new arrangements, the engineers of this department in grade-18 and 19 will have to work under grade-17 officer of the local bodies department which was unjustified.

He appealed to the president to stop the merger which he termed absolutely illogical and unnatural.
