THIS is apropos of the report ‘Govt preserving ‘folklore’ on CDs’ (Feb 12). Although belated, the Sindhi Language Authority in cooperation with the culture department has taken a step in the right direction to establish a heritage studio for the much-needed preservation of the works of Sughars (the exponents of oral literary work).
Given the fear of being lost in the absence of official patronage, the jewels and pearls of oral Sindhi folk literature richly found in their hearts badly need to be documented and preserved for future generations.
At a time when our own media seems to be overawed and dominated by the invasion of foreign culture, our culture seems to have taken a backseat and our youth, regrettably, is not exposed to what is their own and a matter of pride for them.
The steps taken in this regard by the SLA and the culture department are commendable and will go a long way in highlighting our own culture and tradition.
