THIS is apropos of the letter “Riding establishment’s horse?” (Feb 15) by Dr Abid Rauf Orakzai. The writer disagrees with Imran Khan for holding the troika of Nawaz-Zardari-Fazlur Rehman responsible for the current mess. He opines that Imran Khan wants to grab power with the help of the establishment and he too would join the troika after elections.
While taking reins of the country in their hands in 2008, the leadership of the PPP had said that the country had already suffered enough under a military dictator and we would take the country forward with the help of our political allies. In reality, the PPP government continued the policies of Pervez Musharraf with the full support and backing of its coalition partners.
As a result of this and due to their wrong political and economic policies, Pakistan has suffered a loss of Rs8500 billion during the last four years. During all this while the troika has remained hand-in-glove for their vested interests. On the other hand, Imran Khan owes his success not to the establishment but to his political adversaries and his hard work on the ground. In fact, had the PPP and the PML (N) not performed so poorly in their respective two consecutive terms each, the people would have not got so disappointed with them.
The trust deficit of the PPP and the PML (N) has proved to be the gain of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf. About Imran Khan joining hands with the troika one day, the less said the better.
Lastly, recent upheavals and political turmoil in the Arab world have borne Imran Khan out that the real power does not flow from the barrel of a gun but actually it rests with the people of a country.
