Dudek error sinks Liverpool

LONDON, Dec 1: A dreadful error by Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek helped Manchester United to a valuable 2-1 victory at Anfield in the English Premier League Sunday.

The Poland international, selected by manager Gerard Houllier despite a poor run of recent form, fumbled a simple back pass to gift Diego Forlan United’s opening goal after 64 minutes.

Three minutes later the Uruguayan grabbed his second, beating Dudek at his near post with a fierce drive. Sami Hyypia pulled one back for Liverpool after 82 minutes but United held on for a first win over their fierce rivals in seven attempts.

The victory lifted United to fourth in the table on 29 points, two less than second-placed Liverpool, who have lost three of their last four league games.
