JHANG, Dec 1: Work on two bridges over Chenab will soon be started to link the western part of Shorkot with the tehsil headquarters, Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat has said.

One bridge will be constructed at Chund Bharwana on Jhang-Sargodha Road and the other near Garh Maharaja. The former will replace the century-old single lane road-cum-rail bridge.

He was speaking to his supporters who had assembled at his residence to congratulate him on the assumption of his office.

Earlier, he was accorded a rousing welcome by thousands of his supporters on arrival at the Pindi Bhatian interchange. He was brought to Jhang in a long procession of cars, buses and wagons.

A large number of PPP workers, holding party flags and welcome banners, accompanied the procession with all main office-bearers of the district, Jhang city, tehsil and Peoples Youth Organisation, except district president Qazi Ali Hasan, who has gone to Saudi Arabia to perform Umra.

Faisal Saleh Hayat said that there would be no victimization of any political opponent and he would try to pursue a development-oriented policy to ameliorate the lot of the people of this under developed district.

He said that many other development projects would also be started in the district. The 90 kilometres long Jhang-Balian Road would be upgraded and linked with the motorway at Soil Mor interchange.

The bridge over river Chenab near Chund Bharwana was sanctioned at that time also, the funds were placed at the disposal of National Highway Authority, the design was approved, the contract was awarded and even the date for ground breaking ceremony was fixed when suddenly the government was dismissed.

The caretaker set up which followed, shelved the project. Now with Faisal Saleh, once again calling the shots in the federal government, the people of Jhang find every inducement to think optimistically about the resumption of the project.
