RAWALPINDI, Dec 1: The district and sessions judge, Dost Mohammad Khimta, has constituted ‘Criminal Justice Coordination Committee’, which would address the problems being confronted by the district courts in the dispensation of justice due to the inefficiency of the police department.

The district and sessions judge is the committee’s chairperson, while, its members are the SP (headquarters) and district police officer, Rawalpindi, Shabbir Ahmad, district public prosecutor Malik Ghulam-us-Syedain, district superintendent jail Kaukab Nadeem Warraich, district probation officer Urangzeb Khan and district parole officer Rana Zahid.

In the committee’s first meeting, the chairperson took notice of the inefficiency of the authorities concerned in producing the under-trial prisoners before court.

He said the prosecution witnesses were not given appropriate attention by the police, besides, narcotics cases were being registered by unauthorized police officers.

Mr Khimta asked the committee as to why challans were not submitted by the investigation officers within the prescribed period.

It was decided that the head of the investigation would look into the reason which caused delay in the timely submission of challans.
