PESHAWAR, Feb 15: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) suffered a major setback on Wednesday after its central leader and former secretary general Saranjam Khan announced to quit the Nawaz Sharif-led party.

Former provincial minister and provincial PML-N general secretary Abdul Subhan Khan and former MPA Bahadur Khan from Mardan district also announced to abandon the party against the leadership's policies.

They made the announcement while addressing a meeting of PML-N workers at his residence in Mardan.

Mr Saranjam said he would form a new party, Muslim League, after consulting his well-wishers and that he would welcome PML-N leaders and workers to it.

Mr Saranjam had developed differences with the PML-N leadership over organisational setup in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa announced by party chief Nawaz Sharif during a recent convention at Nishtar Hall.

He even left the convention to protest the naming of new office-bearers.

He had resigned from party offices in the past, too, but withdrew decision at Mr Sharif's request.

It is learnt that former PML-N leader Javed Hashmi, who was currently associated with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, has contacted Mr Saranjam in a bid to rope him in. - APP
