KARACHI, Feb 15: A prayer leader was shot dead in Liaquatabad on Wednesday evening, police said.

They said that the killing took place in Liaquatabad No 2 within the remit of the Supermarket police station near Aqsa Mosque.

The prayer leader, Sadaqat Ali, 28, was returning home in Hasan Colony when two men riding a motorcycle targeted him and escaped, they added.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died on the spot. The police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Liaquatabad Division SP Noman Siddiqui said that it appeared to be a sectarian killing case.

The Jaffaria Alliance condemned the killing and said in a statement that Maulana Sadaqat Ali was the prayer leader of Masjid-e-Masoomia in Liaquatabad’s Hasan Colony.

A large number of people gathered at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital after learning about the killing.
