SUKKUR, Feb 12: Two men suspected to be bandits, a policeman and a villager were killed in an encounter in the kutcha area of Ghotki on Sunday.

But police confirmed the death of only the policeman, but local people said two bandits and a villager also died.

Armed bandits barged into the house of Obaid Ogahi in the Gemro area and herded his six buffaloes away. Obaid informed police which reached there. The bandits opened fire and police fired back.

In the encounter, local people said, ASI Altaf Korai, Obaid and bandits Goro Lolai and Anwar Lolai were killed.

The body of the ASI was taken for burial to Hayat Pitafi village.

SSP of Ghotki has announced Rs2 million compensation for the family of the ASI and a job for a member of his family.

Talking to journalists, he said that some bandits had been injured in the shootout and a heavy police contingent had cordoned off the kutcha area.

Couple killed: A man killed his brother’s wife and a man in the Gulsher Jakhrani village near Jacobabad late on Saturday night on suspicions they had illicit relations.

Qambar Ali Jakhrani first shot dead Samina Jakhrani and then went to the house of Jawed Jakhrani and killed him too.

Jawed’s father Mohammad Ayoob Jakhrani lodged an FIR in which he accused Qambar of killing his son when he asked him to pay back Rs300,00 he had borrowed.

He then killed Samina in order to level the allegation of illicit relations, he said.

He has also accused Qambar’s cousin Abdul Rehman Jakhrani and two other men of being involved in the murder.
