THIS is apropos of the letter ‘Adopting a child’ (Feb 7). It is unfortunate how a good deed was misconstrued by the writer.
To bring the matter on record, a news item on a private TV channel came to the president’s notice, and he asked his sister, who herself is mother of two daughters, to direct the Baitul Ma’al to adopt the baby girl at one of its orphanages. At no point did the president asked for personal adoption of the baby girl by his sister. It is a standard practice that the president looks after orphan boys and his sister Faryal Talpur is responsible for orphan girls.
After the military operation in Swat, he took personal interest in forming orphanages in the country and on his directives the Sweet Homes scheme was introduced by the Baitul Ma’al. Right now there are 2,800 children under the care of the Baitul Ma’al orphanages and every year these children spend a full day at the Aiwan-i-Sadr with the president. These children are provided the best of food, clothing and education. Among them 12 outstanding children are under his direct supervision, whose school fees are borne by him from his personal income.
It is unfeeling on the part of the writer to spin a good move into a subject of ridicule and insult. I request all that in matters such as this one should refrain from abusing information and misleading people about their elected leaders.
